Eagles D dominates for 45 minutes and then... |
umm well all the sudden it changed. Midway through the 4th quarter CB-Neal Miller picks off QB-Jabari Mullen and takes it 26 yards for a TD. At that point in the game the Lions didn't even have 150 yards of offense and they already punted 9 times. But no lead is safe no matter how good a defense is playing. The Lions "turn it on" with 3 minutes to go and put up two TD's (the second one converting a 4th and goal) to get within a point. They decide to go for two and they make it to go up 18-17 with :18 to go (with their back up QB who was knocked out after a sack midway through the last drive).
Yep, I hate to lose this way, but it makes me feel better to get it out. I'm sure there are 31 other GM's who have felt the same way after a loss like this. |

Eagles announce 2019 Starting Lineup |
The Eagles are coming off their best season under their current GM with a run to the NFC Championship only to get their regular playoff beat down at the hands of the Bears. the 2018 starting lineup was largely guys in their mid 20's so there will not be a ton of shakeup here but there are some rookies that have cracked the starting lineup. So here we go with the offense first:
QB-Phil Sanders- He is the oldest starter on the team, but he is coming off a great season in 2018 which including a passer rating of 83.1. He started the final 13 regular season and all playoffs games.
RB-Byron Emanuel- There was definitely some chatter in Philly this past offseason about the trade that sent RB-Trevor Braxton to San Diego for Emanuel. It turned out both RB's had nice seasons for their teams. Emanuel's first year here was very productive with 1873 yards and 10 TD's, averaging 4.96 YPC.
FB-Anthony Manley- He is a converted TE who took on the FB role for the first time last season and he did a fine job of opening holes for Emanuel. He was also a great receiver out of the backfield.
*WR-Fred Reese (R)- Reese will take over at starting WR for J.J. Collins who has been very good, but we are looking for a little more size and Reese does that at 6'6", 235 lbs., and he has good speed for his height at 93. He's a rookie so we expect some mistakes, but in a couple years he could be really hard to defend.
WR-Gerard Sweeney- One of the best all around WR's in the league. It's a shame he is not in a more passing oriented offense or he could have put up more years like 2015.
*TE-Dean Wynn (R)- Wynn takes over for the veteran Rogers who has clearly lost a step. Wynn bring good speed to the position and should develop into a nice receiving TE.
LT-Frank Williams- 25 year old Big Frank will take his 363 lbs. and anchor the left side of the line for his 4th season. He's really maturing and should start to be a little more dominant.
LG-Craig Miller- 26 years old and in his 6th season with the team, Miller has all the tools to be an all-pro at the LG spot.
C-Josh Miller- Another 25 year old on the OL entering his 4th season as the starting center. He set a career high with 133 pancakes this past season.
*RG-Steve Cooper (R)- Here's the surprise starter on the offense this season. Cooper has beat out RG-Kenny Christman for the starting position. He's got a lot to learn in his blocking, but he has the tools (61 SPD, 97 STR, and 82 ACC) to be really good and so we start the season taking a bit of a gamble on Cooper. If he doesn't pan out Christman goes right back to his spot.
RT-Jim Flewelling- The anchor on the right side of the line at 359 lbs., the 26 year old is entering his 6th season as the starting RT.
The defensive side of the ball looks like this:
*LE-Donovan Serra (R)- The monster sized 4-3 DE is a rookie, but has looked very good in training camp. His combo of size and speed should equal significant pressure on the opponent's RT.
DT-Steve Olsen- The former first round choice who has a great speed and size combo at DT enters his 5th season and has already established himself as one of the best DT's in the league.
DT-Joel Kato- He's not big but he certainly is quick and the last two seasons he has come on strong averaging 4.5 sacks per season at the #2 DT position.
*RE-Walk McKinnie- Walt has been the starter at LE for the last 5 seasons but is making the switch to RE so Serra can play at LE. Walt is great at getting pressure on the QB.
LOLB-Neal Jansen- The 26 year old OLB is entering his 3rd season as the starter. He's not big, but he is lightning quick and has excellent awareness.
MLB-Jeremy Anderson- The anchor of the defense is entering his 4th season as the starter. He has been a great run stopper and at 25 years old is going to be here for a while.
ROLB-Edgar Houston- He came over from Carolina in a trade a year ago and had a very nice season including 13 TFL, 7 Sacks, and 3 INT's. We look forward to having him build on that this season.
FS-Clarence Shade- FS has been an achilles heel for this team, but Shade will get another shot here. The former 4th round draft choice is in his 6th season with the team.
SS-Corey Spielman- The 26 year old former 5th round draft choice is entering his 5th season as a starter. Last season he grabbed 4 INT's, a career high.
CB-Neal Miller- The former rookie of the year has had two solid seasons with the team. He is entering his 3rd year as a starter. He is really starting to mature.
*CB-Steve Perez- Steve gets the nod over last year's two other starters CB-Jamie Smith and CB-Stan Shaw. In a league that is trending to smaller, faster WR's Perez's speed has thrust him into a starting role.
Summary: With only five starters over the age of 26 (QB-Sanders-33, WR-Sweeney-29, DT-Kato-27, RE-McKinnie-27, and FS-Shade-27) we still feel a year or so away, but this team is maturing nicely. |

2019 Eagles Draft Review |
1.29- LE-Donovan Serra- 324 lbs., 85 SPD, 88 AGI, and 87 ACC. The Eagles had no intention of drafting a DE, but when a guy this talented drops, you make the changes you need to make.
2.29- TE-Dean Wynn- 89 SPD, 77 STR, 88 ACC, 75 CTH, and 88 JMP. Believe it or not the debate at 1.29 involved Serra and Wynn. Needless to say the Eagles were thrilled to see he last til the late 2nd.
3.14- (from the Panthers)- WR-Fred Reese- 6'6", 235 lbs., 91 SPD, 66 STR, 93 ACC, and 92 JMP. This is a gamble, but if he stays where he is or improves in the skew, the Eagles will love this guy.
3.15- (from the Colts)- TE-Ray Riggs- 21 years old, 84 SPD, 73 STR, 70 AWR, and 89 ACC. There's a long story here, but the Eagles need help at the skilled positions offensively and so in comes Riggs.
4.15- (from the Colts)- WR-Kris Harris- 6'3", 90 SPD, 61 STR, 93 ACC, 87 CTH. We are hoping for a positive skew here.
5.29- LT-Steve Cooper- 316 lbs., 59 SPD, 97 STR, 82 ACC. His blocking skills need some work to be sure, but his SPD, STR, and ACC combo makes puts him in a short list of OL. He is clearly worth the gamble.
6.29- LT-Jay Thompson- 321 lbs., 63 SPD, 60 AGI, and 74 ACC. He will be a reserve OL, but could be a nice backup.
7.29- FS-Mark Grandmont- The Eagles have chosen not to sign him. |

Eagles win the battle but lose the war |
The Eagles managed a 29-6 victory over the Giants in week 3 through a superb effort defensively. The game was much closer than the final score indicates.
However, the Eagles lost the war... well sort of. Mr. Wesley was gracious enough to host me for a round of golf this past Saturday. He and another club pro took it to me on the golf course, but is was really quite enjoyable.
Thanks again Mr. Wesley for a great afternoon of golf! I look forward to doing it again sometime. |
