Saints Mid-Season Report
7-1 so far and doing so against some very tough teams including my divisional opponents as well as the Bears, and Browns.

Key Players
QB Farmer has been consistent while the Saints have concentrated on running the ball. His top 5 QB rating has been vital to the Saints success this season.

DE Owens has been a game changer on defense as he has 7 sacks through this point. More impressively is his ability to hold his ground in run defense and near the top in TFL for the team. Owens has rare speed, strength and agility and has a bright future in NOLA.

The second half of the season will not be any easier with the remaining divisional games as well as Baltimore and other tough squads with excellent GMs.

Saints Sign Former Offensive Tackle
The Saints agreed on a 1 year contract that would bring in former Saints stand-out OT Leonardo Gold. Gold, who turned 34 in the off-season, had been working out with several Saints players in the off-season but had not decided if he was to retire from the TWR. The Saints FO had parted ways in good terms with Gold as he tested FA in the 2016 and found a home in San Francisco. The Saints and Gold feel this move will help the team and allow Gold to retire as a Saint where he played some of his best football.

Gold will compete for the RT spot this season and use his agility, power and AWR to give the Saints that much better of an edge in run/pass blocking.

Gold is 2nd all-time in pancakes behind Browns great John Burns.

Saints Draft 2018
1.30 - SS Al Henderson (Nebraska)

Saints decided not to resign their long-time starting SS Bradley and yet had not decided upon taking Henderson until the last minutes of the time slot elapsed. He has average size but showed above average speed, catching and jumping attributes which led the Saints to select him in the 1st round.

2.30 - WR Charles Price (Wisconsin)

The Saints have been looking for WR help for the past few years without success. Part of this off-season's moves, the Saints traded their 3rd and 4th round picks for Andre Van Dyke (and a mid-rd 5th) who is thought to add some much needed size. Charles Price has the potential to be a burner (with pretty good hands) and his 6'4" frame could outweigh his field awareness and jumping ability.

49ers Ambush Saints in Superdome
The Saints defense had stopped the 49ers nearly every drive until the 4th quarter started and then the carnage started. After a long 49er drive that ended in a TD, the 49ers led 17-16. The Saints turned around and threw an interception and held the 49ers to a FG which made the score 20-16. The next possession was just as terrible for the Saints as another pass was intercepted and this one was brought back for a TD.

The Saints were never able to recover. The disappointing loss was compounded by a terrible performance by veteran kicker Bennett who missed 3 of 6 FGs.

The Saints face the Titans in week 3 in which promises to be an epic battle.
