Seahawks Draft Review |
Below is the 2019 draft tracker for the Seattle Seahawks.
1.8 HB Randy Barber (Colorado)
(23yo, 237lbs, 94 SPD, 79 STR, 88 AGI, 91 ACC, 81 BTK)
Barber is a bustling medium-heavy back with a good burst of speed. Represents what the Seahawks believed to be the best all-round talent in the halfback draft pool. Will take a little patience to get his break tackle up to true monster-truck capabilities, but given his new GM's track records with bringing along halfbacks such as James Chandler and Joel Robinson, Barber is in good hands.
2.7 MLB Shane Watters (Alabama)
(21yo, 228lbs, 81 SPD, 71 STR, 84 AGI, 83 ACC, 82 TKL)
Seahawks' scouts were obviously surprised when Watters was still on the board when their second pick came around, but that may have been because of an average 40yard time. Needless to say, Watters brings an impressive skillset with him into TWR and fills a need the team definitely had with the move to 3-4. It also spells the end to Jon Els as a Seahawks starter.
2.24 LT Bill Siegel (Jacksonville State)
(22yo, 315lbs, 88 STR, 57 AGI, 72 ACC, 88 RBK, 88 PBK)
Siegel may not have come from one of the bigger Florida schools, but it has done little to stop him from being a starter-ready lineman. Already possessing a quick read of the defense at tryouts, Siegel combines a relatively light step to that which will hopefully give a relatively young offense that extra second it may need.
3.8 DE Dontrelle Winfield (Boston College)
(23yo, 252lbs, 69 SPD, 92 STR, 73 AGI, 77 ACC, 67 TKL)
Winfield is a riskier move for the Seahawks, as the rookie does have some deficiencies in his skills. His 252lbs frame should be offset by his impressive strength, but in a 3-4 defense it could be a risk. Combined with a tackle ability that needs major refinement, he will need time, but the Seahawks were impressed with his quick and nimble feet for a potential 3-4 DE.
4.8 C Troy Lewis (S. C. State)
(21yo, 296lbs, 61 SPD, 91 STR, 63 AGI, 79 ACC, 81 PBK, 87 RBK)
Troy Lewis is exactly the kind of light-footed center with some grunt that the Seahawks were after and will provide another rookie starter for the O-line.
5.8 WR Barry Horton (Texas A&M)
(23yo, 6'3", 90 SPD, 91 AGI, 91 ACC, 70 CTH, 89 JMP)
Horton provides a viable #2 possession WR for the Seahawks. A good, strong and tall frame combined with respectable speed and agility. Won't be burning anybody off the line in the #1 speedster position, but should be an excellent option for the slants and under zone coverage passing.
6.8 MLB Derrick Sparks (Wisconsin)
(23yo, 76 SPD, 68 STR, 80 AGI, 86 ACC, 86 TKL)
Sparks may have looked surprised when he got picked by the Seahawks, but he shouldn't be buying any condos in downtown Seattle too early. The Seahawks have stated that they prefer Sparks' athleticism over Jon Els, but considering Els was already being pushed to depth-only on the playing list, Sparks will have to impress at training camp to even be considered 3rd string.
7.8 LT George Starks (Penn State)
(23yo, 306lbs, 53 SPD, 96 STR, 61 AGI, 76 ACC, 70 PBK, 81 RBK)
A good 7th round pickup, Starks will most likely be shifted inside the tackles to the guard position, where his size and mobility are better suited. |

Seahawks Take On New GM's Philosophy |
Seattle, WA - New Seahawks general manager Wade Pearce spent little time getting comfortable in the soggy northwest as he moved on three trades in a bid to inject some new work ethos into the lineup.
Before signing off on trades, a number of veterans were given their marching orders, including quarterback Gabe Watson who appears to be heading towards an inglorious end to his journeyman career in the UFA pool. This will leave a number of positions well short of roster requirements, but Pearce is confident he can fill those not covered by draft picks with decent and cost-effective free agents post-draft.
The first trade the Seahawks swang involved a highly-valued player once he went on the market, but eventually, the Chargers won out.
Trade 1
WR Jerome Slater
CB Meir Perry
Chargers #2 Pick
The second trade saw the Seahawks chace a covetted cornerback to round out their secondary and they paid a price they think was worthwhile to get him.
Trade 2
CB Deion Vann
WR Lamar Reid
FS Akeem Lott
CB Corey Stewart
The third and final trade saw the Seahawks trade in a superstar widereceiver for the purpose of providing a deadly and valuable target for young QB Marcus Johnstone to throw at this season.
Trade 3
DE Martin Mosling
Seahawks #2 Pick
WR Duante Spoto
Cowboys #2 Pick
With a brand new secondary (that appears to be needed now that the 49ers have acquired WR Abraham) and a superstar WR, the team is set to head into the draft and fill the other positions they want to upgrade. |

GM Wade Pearce Returns |
Seattle, WA - After long-serving General Manager Ryan McClure stepped down from the position at the Seahawks, management spent a great deal of time searching for their desired candidate. After an exhaustive search, the Seattle franchise settled on previous long-standing Jaguars' GM Wade Pearce.
"It is an honour to return to the league and to have the chance to bring glory back to a franchise that is used to success but has not experienced that success in 4 seasons. Mr McClure has left me the building blocks needed to make this team great again and I intend to bring my own style to the team. I will give you a roster that will win games."
Pearce has had a lot of experience in TWR. After running the Steelers for 1.5 seasons and being sacked, he returned shortly afterwards to take the reins of the Jacksonville Jaguars for 12 seasons, with his greatest achievement being to take the Jaguars to the 2010 AFC Championship game.
He hopes to take the Seahawks to the playoffs more regularly. |

Seahawks Update |
We Stink!!! Although I am not sure this actually qualifies as an update since it isn't really a change.
I didn't think we could manage to lose in yet another stunning fashion, but we managed to out do ourselves this week by managing only 6 points while not turning the ball over a single time. Oh, sure, the defense appears to have played nicely, but they didn't have any big plays themselves. Oh well. There's always next year! |
