Pittsburgh 1/4 season report |
Pittsburgh PA,
Associated Press
Steelers release their 2019 1st Quarter season report today, General Manager David Nuhfer says that he is pleased with the way the team has performs thus far. The Steelers after 4 games are 3-1. They have won both the AFC North Division games they played. The Steelers are 3rd in total Defense, 10th in pass defense, and 4th in Rush defense. The Steelers have managed to hold their opponents to 14 points per game while scoring 23.3 points per game. The Steelers also have the Defensive leader Cornerback George Johnson. Johnson has 5 interceptions and a touchdown.
The Steelers began the season with Jaime O’Leske as the Quarterback but changed to Dwayne Taylor after O’Leske had two terrible games in a row. O’Leske attributed to the Steelers only lost this season against the Atlanta Falcons. O’Leske has a quarterback rating of 35.0 % for the two games he played. Mostly due to the five interceptions that he had. Steelers Head Coach John Galt stated that “(O’Leske) has always been hit or miss. What the Steelers need isn’t hit or miss. We need consistency.” Consistency is something that O’Leske has never been able to manage. O’Leskes replacement, Dwayne Taylor, is a 27 year old 6’4” 214 lb giant of a man. He has shown considerable talent and consistency. Some have questioned why Taylor is now the starter instead of Chris Eubanks. Eubanks who has been O’Leskes back up for the last three years has done a superb job as a back up and has started a few games when O’Leske was on one of his cold streaks. Eubanks however does not have the certain quality that GM Nuhfer desired in a Quarterback. “He is a good quarterback but what the Steelers need is a great quarterback” Right now the Steelers are hoping that Taylor has the right qualities. If not they may be looking for a new QB in the off season.
The Steelers are also pleased that Anthony Marsh has brought the running game back to the Steel City. Not since Emmitt Wright has the Steelers had such a ground threat. Marsh has a long way to go to match the talent of Wright but he seems well on his way. His last seasons performance surpass Wrights performance while he was on the Steelers. Wright was in the twilight of his career as a Steeler and Marsh is only just beginning. Last year Marsh had 1454 yards and 9 touchdowns in 382 attempts. So far this season Marsh has 287 yards and 4 touchdowns but only in 88 attempts.
The Steelers are in the lead of their division. They look like they are on their way to a division championship. We hope that they manage to hold their team together through the end of the season.
There is finally hope in Pittsburgh. |

Players Union and Owners Strike deal |
Pittsburgh PA,
Associated Press
Worry mingled with grief as fans watched the owners shut down the entire TWR league. Rumors over what transpired will continue for the remained of our lifetimes. Some have said that the wait is over, that we can proceed forward, and that life is back to normal once again and others claim that the trouble has just begun. Pittsburgh's own Associated Press reporter Charlie Billingsly did some in depth undercover reporting to try and figure when the Steelers will be back to Heinz field.
After careful investigation, it appears that the TWR Commissioners and the Players Union had a disagreement on conditions of the game. "Unfortunately it seems as though we have a yearly issue with the (rank and) file, probably implying our rosters are somehow screwed. In any case, we are working diligently to fix the problem, but have no success at this point." Comissioner Hal Schoenberg stated at the begining of this crisis. Not willing to comment further Schoenberg set out to do what he does best and got to the root of the problem. After many restless nights the issue was brought to the General managers. "Although I believe there is a way around it without fixing this problem, but if we can fix the problem I think it will be a clear path down the road." Houston Texan's GM Ricky Lung mentioned after one particularly tense meeting. "It appears we are making significant progress, please be patient as there is still some work left, but things are looking up." Philadelphia Eagle's GM Neil Wintermute added giving hope for thousands of fans everywhere.
After considerable effort and painstaking negotiation the Players Union and the Owners managed to work out a deal. The details of which have not been released as of the posting. It is rumored that the deal may include changes in League rules and other changes to paperwork but no lasting changes to league play. President of the Players Union, Lester Crankshaw, stated that "We are at the pinnacle of a new year, a step forward in football. The players, the Commissioners, and the Owners have stepped out to make this deal work. Rummors of league shut down or stike are unfounded and Football will resume as normal. I applaud all who were involved in this delicate process." Minnesota Vikings GM Anthony Fernandez said to the key members of the agreement, "Your hard work makes it easy for other guys to find their own ways to contribute time to this league, as I am honest when I say this is the best league there is."
For now the Crisis is averted. Free agency rears its head again and coaches begin to scream at players to prepare for the new season. Pittsburghers who live and breathe Steeler mania all take a collect breath as routines are restored. Pittsburgh Steeler GM, David Nuhfer had this to say, " No one likes change, No one wants things to be different. We look forward to coming here every day and expecting the league to run smoothly. What we take for granted are the men who work tirelessly to keep things smooth. I applaud these heroes. Men who work behind the scenes not because they want to, not because they have to, but because they love to. Great men who sacrifice not for money, not for themselves, but for everyone in the league. Here in Pittsburgh we stand in praise for these Real Men of Greatness. See you on the field of battle, Gentlemen." Words that are echoed throughout the league. |

Steelers 2018 Draft Report |
Pittsburgh Steeler Draft Report
The Pittsburgh Steelers entered the 2018 draft with a swelled roster and a young team. They only needed one player to satisfy their roster requirements but they entered the draft with hope. Hope that they could find that diamond in the rough or that one player that will make a huge difference. Picking in the eighteenth spot hindered their chances for that superstar. The Draft started out with a run on cornerbacks. A position that GM David Nuhfer hoped would hold out a few top stars until the 18th pick. But that was the first of his troubles. By the time the Steeler pick came 5 Cornerbacks and 3 Wide Receivers had left the draft pool. By this time GM Nuhfer was no longer at Radio City Music Hall due to family issues and left the Draft up to his assistant Otto Draught. Mr. Draught had a template to follow but his ability was not the same as having Mr. Nuhfer at the Helm. The Steeler picks are:
1.18 RG Ben Turner
Turner has the size and strength that the Steelers value in their lines. His young age and decent awareness should make him a valuable addition to the team. He is viewed as the future RG in a few years.
Pre Skew: 6'6" 338lbs STR 95- AWR 75- AGI 55- PBK 84- RBK 86
Post Skew: STR 97- AWR 75- AGI 57- PBK 85- RBK 84
2.18 MLB Steve Chiang
Chiang was taken late. Some how Mr. Draught messed up and did not get to pick until 3.6. Chiang was top of the list by this time. We will have to see if this pick was worth the 2.18 even though it was selected in the 3rd round.
Pre Skew: 6'2" 243lbs SPD 85- STR 74- AWR 65- ACC 84- TAK 81
Post Skew: SPD 84- STR 72- AWR 65- ACC 85- TAK 81-
3.18 This pick was traded last the day before the draft to the Denver Broncos for 28 year old RG David Erb
4.18 LOLB Nate Howard Howard is looked at as a back up to replace a future retiring player.

Post Skew: SPD 79- STR 79- AWR 68- ACC 83- TAK 73
The last three picks were not signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
5.18 CB Corey Willis

Steelers continue losing Streak |
Pittsburgh, PA:
The Pittsburgh Steelers came out to a roaring crowd last Sunday but ended in disappointment As the Cincinatti Bengals defeated them 24 to 16.
The Steelers showed great presence on the field especially defensively but defense is not enough a team needs offense too. And that is where the Steelers failed. Terrible numbers stream across the board as we look at the game stats. Both teams had terrible third down percentage. And the Steelers, a team that has prided itself on its running game in its past showed poorly this game with a measly 34 yards and an average of 1.26 yards per carry. In order to make up yards the Quarterback needed to throw the ball a lot more. The Bengals secondary did wonderful work keeping the ball away from receivers but the Steelers did manage to get 207 passing yards. The problem being that with all the passing the Bengals managed to get two interceptions and a fumble recovery. One of the Interceptions was returned for a touchdown.
The staff at the Steelers feel that the game could have easily been won. They had benched their starting Quarterback in order to show some displeasure in his past performances. Perhaps it was an omen because his replacement, Chris Eubanks, ended up hurt with a torn Pectoral and will be out for ten weeks. This means Jaime O'Leske will have to step up and do the job he was hired to do. Hopefully we will see that improvement with the Seahawks next week. |
